Username Checker Status and Changelog
This page records how the username availability checker works and every meaningful change made to it. It exists because a tool that says it is honest should show its work.
How the checker works today
- You type a username. Your browser sends that username, and only that, to our own server through a WordPress REST endpoint.
- Our server requests each platform’s public profile address directly and reads the response.
- A clear “not found” response is shown as available. Anything else, including a failed or rate-limited request, is shown as not confirmed rather than guessed.
- Results are cached on our server for six hours and in your browser for 24 hours to avoid repeated requests.
The check is a strong heuristic, not a guarantee. Some platforms return a normal page for names that do not exist, and platforms change their systems without notice. Always confirm a username on the platform before you build anything around it.
What is and is not sent to us
The name, profession and interests you type into the bio generator never leave your browser. The username you check is sent to our server briefly so the lookup can run. See the Privacy Policy for retention details.
Changelog
September 2026: lookups moved to our own server
The checker previously sent requests through a free third-party proxy service from your browser. That service was rate-limited and unreliable, so we replaced it with a check made by our own server. The result is more reliable and one fewer outside party sees the request. The trade-off is that the username you check now reaches our server, which is why the Privacy Policy and this page say so plainly.
October 2026: wording corrected across the site
The homepage, Terms of Use and checker page still described the earlier proxy approach after the change. They now describe the current server-side check.
Known limits
- Heavy use can trigger rate limiting by the platforms, which shows as “check manually”.
- Please do not use the checker for automated bulk requests. The Terms of Use explain why.
- A name shown as available may still be reserved, banned or restricted by the platform.
